Getting to Know: Georgina Nichas
1. Name: Georgina Nichas
2. Age: 20
3. What do you do when you are not at the box?
I am currently in my 2nd year of studying a BA degree in Brand Building and Management at Vega which is right opposite Menlyn. I also dabble in a bit of the makeup arts. It’s one of my favourite hobbies and I am hoping to go and study it after I finish my degree.
4. How did you start CrossFit and how long have you been doing it?
I started CrossFit because of my big brother Baby G (George Bourdos). He seemed very excited about his training and the community and just being loud about it (what my brother is known for!). So I started in March of 2014. Ive been doing CrossFit for a little over a year and a half now!
5. What is your biggest achievement since starting CrossFit?
My biggest achievement is that I recently was able to do 78 double unders, unbroken! Last year I remember it took Jamie Muller 100 hours of frustration teaching me! Thanks Girl!
6. What is your best and worst movement or WOD?
Worst is definitely running! Oh and front squats… Best I would say is Deadlifts and double unders – can you believe it?
7. Most memorable moment at CFB?
Most memorable moment would be when I entered my first individual competition, LMS. It was WOD 4 – 18 minutes of pain. All I knew was that I had so much support from fellow CFBers and even non-CrossFitters that were there for me every sweaty step at a time. I have never felt so loved by a community than that I did that day.
8. Who inspires you at the box and why?
I have so many people at the box that I admire and have always been inspired by, but I just want to say that Coach Ricky definitely is the main man. He constantly had faith in me to get my technique better and to get stronger. He always gives me words of wisdom, motivation and constantly compliments me on how far I’ve come.
9. Any words of wisdom to your fellow CFBers or newbies?
Don’t be afraid to be committed, I was. I was scared of movements and afraid of failing as well as not having friends. So from the beginning of this year I decided that I needed to stop being scared and become committed. There are so many people at the box that will motivate you till your last rep, till you get that PB and so many new friends you can make. Its all about involving yourself and being motivated to beat who you were yesterday.
