Getting to Know: Danielle Du Plessis

1. Name: Danielle du Plessis

2. Age: 22

3. What do you do when you are not at the box?

I am currently in my final year of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pretoria. During the holidays I love to visit my family in Durban and go to the beach.

4. How did you start CrossFit and how long have you been doing it?

Ernie introduced me to CrossFit Brooklyn; his passion and enthusiasm for the sport and the box made me so excited to begin. I started my On-Ramp in May 2014. I originally began CrossFit to supplement my gymnastics training but then got hooked once I realised how much I enjoyed it. I have been doing CrossFit for over a year now and have learnt that although I do not always enjoy every workout, I always leave CrossFit with a sense of accomplishment.

5. What is your biggest achievement since starting CrossFit?

My biggest achievement was getting a 60kg clean (PB) 3 times during a SAFL workout.  And I would just like to say well done to Shante Liebenberg for doing 27 60kg cleans in that same workout.

6. What is your best and worst movement or WOD?

My three worst movements are deadlifts, running (obviously), and taking the clips on and off the barbells!!

My best movement is hand stand push ups.

7. Most memorable moment at CFB?

Taking part in the Last Man Standing Team competition has really been a highlight for me this year. It was my first CrossFit competition and I was very nervous of letting my team down. None of us expected our team to do so well but we really conquered some physical and mental obstacles and stood together to dominate the WODs.

8. Who inspires you at the box and why?

There are many people who inspire me at the box; I am thankful of every person who has cheered me on during a WOD and motivated me to push myself further than I thought I could. We are really blessed to belong to a box with so much spirit.

The person who inspires me the most at the box is a lady who works mostly behind the scenes to make sure that our CrossFit experience is extraordinary. She goes above and beyond for our box to ensure that everything is running smoothly on a daily basis. This lady is Kirsty Roebuck, the mommy of our box family.

9. Any words of wisdom to your fellow CFBers or newbies?

There will always be good days and bad days; don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t succeed every single day. You will always have more opportunities, just try your best!
